stuart: the one the debate last night? >> absolutely romney. there is a small town of about 300 people around here where i watched it in a local tavern. the folks in the tavern had the same worries that we do in the city. and down, everyone in that tavern felt like you and i did. stuart: you are a cattle farmer, don't you like subsidies from the federal government? isn't president barack obama tried to bribe you with some subsidies? >> i think things have been going so well now that that is not really the case anymore. the big businessmen, which farmers are, they do not rely on that clutch anymore. you cannot put a farmer out of business with the weather, but you may if you back over his mailbox. that is not the case anymore. it is good old-fashioned work and there are no shortcuts. stuart: i was joking, scott. i hope you know that. i am a tree farmer myself. i am not looking four subsidies from president obama or anyone else. >> it is a good honest days work and you sleep better. the oxygen that you get out here is much better than in the city

mitchell reports," a bout last night, president obama and governor romney, what both are saying about their debate performance. >> when i got on to the stage, i met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be mitt romney. but it couldn't have been mitt romney because the real mitt romney has been running around the country for the last year promising $5 trillion in tax cuts that favor the wealthy, the fellow on stage last night said he didn't know anything about that. >> last night i thought was a great opportunity for the american people to see two very din visions for the country. and i think it was helpful to be able to describe those visions. i saw the president's vision as trickle down government and i don't think that's what america believes in. >> overnight polls and "the denver post" give round one to romney. as a republican challenger went after the president's record. >> i just don't know how the president could have come into office, facing 23 million people out of work, rising unemployment, and economic crisis at the kitchen table, and spent his energy and passion for two

they had just about given up on romney before last night. they needed -- they really needed romney to do well last night. otherwise, they would have just folded their tent. unfortunately, they got the boost last night that they needed. because romney did breathe new life into the campaign. now for the next week, right it's going to be oh, my god, oh, my god, we gotta bounce now. we didn't get a bounce out of paul ryan or tampa but now yeah romney proved he's up to the task. he showed that he's capable of holding his own against president obama and this is going to re-energize the republicans. just when we had them down for the count we let them back up. off the canvas. should never have done it. should never have let it happened. all right. more calls coming up and we'll talk to reporter from the hill, niles standage in the next segment here of the "full court press." >> announcer: this is the "bill press show." >>and now to my point. that is a whole bunch of bunk! the powerful my steal an election but they cannot steal democracy. i mean, look, chris, last night if mitt romney was talking, he was lying. he lied about his tax plan that cost $5 trillion. his campaign has never disputed that his tax plan costs $5 trillion until last night. he lied about medicare and what his plan will do. >> we are going to get into some of those specifics, so here's -- >> here's my point, chris. i don't believe that style will win out over substance in the long run. one reason mitt romney -- >> let me ask the same question to shawn. shawn, style versus substance? >> right. i think last night was a clear choice. and on style and on substance or any other measure that you want to judge it, mitt romney laid out a clear plan for this country and did it in a way that resonated with most americans. i think on the other hand it was not a question of style that the president lacked, it was a lacking of policies and a record over the last four years that he was able to pivot to. and i think the problem is that at some point in the middle of the debate last night the president finally realized, wait, i have actu
